Every day of the year, The National Teachers Hall of Fame endeavors to honor America’s teachers as the unsung heroes in our democracy. Through news releases, workshops, webinars, and national distribution of informational material, The NTHF publicizes the positive image of education and encourages others to thank their teachers.

There are several annual events that The NTHF promotes with special emphasis:

May 2, 2014
The 5 members of the Class of 2014 will be honored at NEA headquarters in Washington DC with a gala reception.

May 6, 2014
Teacher Appreciation Day Every American Will be asked to thank a teacher on that day.

June 10-13, 2014
NTHF InductionTeacher recognition week in Emporia, Kansas, with formal induction ceremonies scheduled for 7:15 PM on the 13th.

November 17-21, 2014
American Education WeekThe annual NTHF fund-raising auction is held on Thursday.
American media coverage encourages teacher appreciation activities during the week

We are continuing to raise funding needed for a black granite monument to be erected just west of the one-room schoolhouse on the Emporia State University campus, Emporia, KS.  Through the generosity of Pearson Education and Security Benefit Corporation, we have the down payment raised, and work will continue as the money is raised. We have a pledge from the City of Emporia. Dedication ceremonies are planned for on June 12, 2014 during induction week.

Thus far, 77 names, dating back to 1764, have been found, and research continues.  If you have information about educators who were “killed in the line of duty,” please contact the Hall of Fame, so that those names can be included.  Sadly, we added 2 more names in October after the deaths of Michael Landsberry and Colleen Ritzer.

The National Teachers Hall of Fame 22nd annual radio auction was a huge success during American Education Week in November, and thanks go out to all who donated items, bid during the auction, or made financial contributions to our efforts.

After expenses, we cleared almost $14,000, all of which will go toward induction expenses in June. We are grateful to Emporia State Federal Credit Union and radio station KVOE for their continued partnerships with us to make the auctions fun and successful.
