For her outstanding contributions as a first grade elementary teacher, Dona is recognized on the Donors’ Wall of Fame by Dorothy Zeller of Valley Center, Kansas.

According to Dorothy:

Dona Ruth McKanna Pieri was a loving daughter and sister.  She was a special individual with vivacious energy, and she loved her career as a teacher.  She was an outstanding mother to three successful sons and volunteered on numerous committee and community projects.  She was instrumental in innovative teacher techniques and always organized special events at her school such as, “Author Day.” She was honored as a nominee in the Carmichael area as teacher of the year.  We appreciate the opportunity of giving this honor to Dona as she was taken suddenly from us on February 10, 1990.  It was fitting that her last days was spent doing what she loved and did so well, teaching students.

Dona Ruth McKanna Pieri taught in Lakewood, Colorado for one year in 1962.  From 1964-1967, Dona taught in West Covina, California.  Dona taught at Albert Switzer Elementary in Carmichael, California from 1978-1990.
