For her outstanding accomplishments as a first through eighth grade teacher, Helen is honored on the Donors’ Wall of Fame by her son Howard Richard of Emporia, Kansas.
According to Howard:
Helen Richard was a teacher who truly cared about her students and their needs. Her teaching experiences ranged from a one-room rural school with grades 1-8 to a more traditional classroom, but she worked very hard to give her students her best in whatever situation she was working in. She did enjoy her teaching and encouraged others to consider it as their profession.
Helen began her career, in 1929, in a one-room school house. She taught in the following Lyon County elementary school system for 27 years before she retire in 1971. Some of schools she worked in were Cocal Creek, Moundridge, Belthe, Valley Star, Boston, Modle, Dixion, Hartford, and Neosho Rapids.
