For his outstanding contributions as a high school biology teacher, Frank is recognized on the Donors’ Wall of Fame by Emporia High School Class of 1969, of Emporia, Kansas.
Frank Nelson was special to our class because every student was required to take his class. Each of us experienced first-hand the combined stern manner and dry wit of an inspiring teacher. He made us learn. Mr. Nelson coached debate at Burrton, Kansas in 1957, resulting in a State Championship.
Frank Nelson was one of only seven teachers statewide selected to be involved in the original Biological Science Curriculum Study Program. Only 100 teachers in the nation were selected.
Frank taught a total of thirty-one years at Emporia High School, and also taught speech, debate, and drama for three years at Burrton, Kansas.
