For his outstanding contributions as a college professor, Howard is recognized on the Donors’ Wall of Fame by Sue Schafer of Emporia, Kansas.

Howard grew up in Emporia, graduating from Emporia High School in 1939, and continued his education at Cal. Poly in San Luis Obispo, California. He graduated from there in q1943.  After serving three years in the Army in the Pacific, he joined Poly faculty in 1946.  He was named Dean of Agriculture in 1976.  As an ornamental horticulture professor he was credited with building the Horticulture Department from about fifty majors to over seven hundred.

He continues to be an influence on former students and communities.  He also spent several month in Australia as a consultant in their agriculture programs and hosted groups of Australian students touring California farming interests.

Howard C. Brown was a teacher for more than forty years. From 1946-1990, he was a teacher in San Luis Obispo, California, where he was a Horticulture Professor.
