Sheryl Abshire
In Sheryl Abshire's opinion, education is a lifelong process of cumulative and developmental experiences gained through interaction with school and society.
"Teaching should be child-centered with a flexible curriculum designed to adequately prepare students to become global citizens in the 21st century. Teaching is a shared responsibility with the school system, the family, the place of worship, and many other community agencies playing a crucial role in the development of the whole child," Sheryl said.
Sheryl began her teaching career in 1973 as a second-grade teacher in Augusta, Georgia. The next year she moved to Lake Charles, Louisiana, where she began an 18-year teaching career with the Calcasieu Parish School Board, teaching fourth and second grades. In 1978, she became a library/media specialist, serving in that capacity in two different elementary schools. In 1992, Sheryl was named acting principal of Westlake Elementary. Sheryl earned her Bachelor of Arts, Master of Education and Education Specialist Degrees from McNeese State University.
