For her outstanding contributions as a junior high Algebra teacher, Iva is recognized on the Donors’ Wall of Fame by Mr. and Mrs. Harry Hart of Emporia, Kansas.
Iva started teaching in 1917, right out of high school in a one room school house in Oklahoma.
After graduating from Oklahoma University she taught at the first elementary level in Wichita, Kansas. She also taught math at Robinson Junior High in Wichita for thirty-five years.
Students and fellow teacher remembered her for her no nonsense approach to teaching. She always expected every student to live up to their potential, but she wasn’t beyond letting them have fun while learning.
Iva made a lasting impression on both students and parents. They still came up to her twenty-five years after she retired to tell her what a good teacher she was and how much they appreciated what she had done for then.
