For his outstanding contributions as an Associate Principal, John is recognized on the Donors’ Wall of Fame by Emporia High School Faculty of Emporia, Kansas.

John “Jack” Mitchell has been involved with education in Emporia since 1947. Dr. Mitchell attended Lowther Junior and Emporia Senior High Schools. He graduated from the College of Emporia in 1959, earned a Master’s degree in mathematics from Emporia State University in 1962, and a Doctorate in Educational Administration from University of Kansas in 1977. Jack Mitchell taught mathematics and coached at Lowther Junior High School from 1959-1963. He returned to the College of Emporia in 1963, where he served as Assistant Professor of Mathematics, Dean of Men, Dean of Students, Vice-President for International Affairs, and Registrar. In 1974, he Joined the Emporia High School faculty as a Career Education Facilitator and later as Assistant then Associate Principal. He and his wife, Maxine, have four children who have each earned teaching degrees.

Dr. Mitchell has made numerous contributions to education, particularly in his genuine concern for young people and in his bringing the Emporia High School staff, faculty, and administrators along in the use of computers.
