For her outstanding contributions as an English and Literature teacher, Martha is recognized on the Donors’ Wall of Fame by Vickie Nitsch, of Dodge City, Kansas.
Martha Cook, a junior and senior English and Literature teacher from Odessa Texas, taught school from 1960-1964. According to Vickie Nitsch:
Martha Cook is special to our entire family. She was a colleague to me during my years at Permian High School in Odessa, Texas. She served as a mentor, friend, and counselor, not only to me, but to others who taught with her.
Both of my sons were in Ms. Cook’s senior English class at Permian High School. She has been voted by each of them as one of their all-time favorite teachers. In their words, ‘ she always had a great sense of humor, made the material interesting, and class participation was fun.’ She is very intelligent, and she genuinely likes her students. She was not only their supporter in the classroom, but during their extra-curricular activities as well.”
Even now when her students from high school get together, they always reminisce about their classes with Ms. Cook and the fun they had in her classroom.
