For her outstanding contributions as a kindergarten through sixth grade physical education teacher, and first and second grade teacher, Sharon is recognized on the Donors’ Wall of Fame by Village School PTO of Emporia, KS.

Mrs. Sharon Allemang is a native of Emporia, Kansas.  She graduated with a B.S. in Education from Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia in 1966.  She received her M.A. degree as a Master Teacher in 1972, also from Kansas State Teachers College.

She taught a total of thirty-one and one half years, beginning as a K-6 physical education teacher in Wichita in 1966.  She taught second grade at Village Elementary School in Emporia from 1967-1979, then taught first grade and a combination grade one half classroom at William Allen White Elementary School from 1979 to 1982.  She returned to Village in 1982, and taught second grade until her retirement in 1999, except for one year sabbatical in 1987-1988.

Her professional memberships included the Emporia, Kansas, and National Education Associations.  She and her husband Clark, currently Executive Director with the State Board of Tax Appeals and former banker, are active in the Arab Shrine Mini-T’s.  They have one son, Clark, who is attending Washburn University Law School.

Known for her quiet and businesslike classroom, Sharon always showed total respect and care for every student.  A superior planner and disciplinarian, she maintained high academic standards, and ensured that every student realized success as they passed through her classroom. Always working with parents and as a part of the school team, she ensured that her students consistently achieved far beyond their abilities.  Her outstanding sense of humor, total patience, and quiet persistence were trademarks shared with her students.

Countless students learned the importance of hard work, self-discipline, and acceptance of responsibility under the caring teaching.  For her service to the children on Kansas, she was recognized by the University of Kansas with a 25-year Certificate of Appreciation.

Sharon Allemang retired from Village School in 1999, and will be missed by all of her students.
