For her outstanding contributions as a third grade teacher, Stelouise is recognized on the Donor’s Wall of Fame by Earl Sauder of Emporia, Kansas.

According to Earl:

“Stelouise Hockensmith graduated from Kansas State Teacher’s College in 1937, with a life certificate in elementary education. That same year, she was hired to teach the third grade in Madison Kansas for a mere $65 a month.

It was there I first this charming young lady, and we were united in marriage on July 8, 1939 in Abilene, Kansas. We have three children (Pamela Matlock of Wichita, Stephen of Emporia and Michael of San Antonio), nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Stelouise, a most gracious wife, mother and grandmother was diagnosed as a victim of Alzheimer’s in 1985. She resides in the Emporia Presbyterian Manor in good physical health, except for the Alzheimer’s.

My love and admiration will never fail my most wonderful wife of more than 56 years. May God Bless.

Stelouise taught third grade for two years at Madison School District in Madison, Kansas.
