Vicki was born to John J. and Marjorie A. Cunningham in Kansas City, Kansas.  In third grade, she knew she wanted to be an elementary teacher.  Vicki graduated from Wyandotte High School, and attended K.S.T.C., she was a member of Psi Chi, KNEA (Vice-President), Pi Lambda Theta, American Personnel and Guidance Association, and Emporia’s Alumni Association.

After her college graduation, she taught third grade at Pleasant Valley School in North Kansas City, Missouri.  While at that location, she received the Carolyn B. Ullman Award from the community.  In 1976, she received her Master of Science Degree from Emporia.  Vicki is in the 1980-1981, seventeenth edition of, Who’s Who in the Midwest.  Also, she presented the first check from the Kansas City Field Chapter of Phi Lambda Theta (as President) to the Phi Lambda Educational Trust fund in Boston, Massachusetts.  In addition, she was initiated into Delta Kappa Gamma Society International.

In 1982, Vicki married Thomas H. McKenzie, and moved to Emporia, Kansas.  She then began teaching in the USD#386 Madison-Virgil District.  In March, 1985, she was nominated in Madison for the Master Teacher Award.  The University of Kansas School of Education awarded Vicki, in March, 1998, a certificate of Appreciation and Recognition of 25 years of service as a teacher to youth.

She loved teaching, and she taught until her daughter, Tara, finished the eighth grade in 2006.  Vicki taught for 33 years and enjoyed working, helping, caring, and instructing her students with creative ideas! She put in endless hours to her profession.
