For her outstanding contributions as a kindergarten through ninth grade teacher, Vina is recognized on the Donors’ Wall of Fame by Aloha and Bill Preston of Emporia, Kansas.

Vina Hillerman received her degrees from Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia, Kansas and began her teaching career in a one-room schoolhouse at Forest Hill near Lebo, Kansas.  She taught there for one year and the next year at the Lyon County Red Brick School.  In 1919, she entered the Emporia, Kansas school system where she taught at Kansas Avenue, Maynard Century, Union, Walnut, Mary Herbert, and Lowther Junior High Schools.  She was the first Principal of Mary Herbert and remained in the position for twenty-two and one half years.  She retired as the art teacher at the Lowther Junior High School in 1960, after forty-four years of teaching.

Vina Hillerman was a thoughtful, caring, and loving teacher.
