Peggy strives to help students realize that they have control over their path in life and are limited only by the size of their dreams. She believes the most productive relationship between teachers and students is built on trust and an enthusiasm for learning – for both the student and the teacher.

Pat thinks of herself as “bridge-builder” between different organizations, groups, the media, and business. She also believes that when her professional work is relevant and effective, it comes through in her students’ work. Pat’s students have interviewed, in person, Spike Lee, Jesse Jackson, George H. W. Bush, and numerous state and local leaders.

Floyd says for him, teaching has become the most exhilarating, heart pounding, yet humbling experience. He believes science teachers put minds into action as cosmic detectives who leave their comfort zone to explore the mysterious complexities of the universe; they do what only a teacher can do.

Harlan is adamant about the need for kids to connect to the world outside of their school for education to be meaningful and productive. Every class of Harlan’s begins with what is called “your time” in which students are encouraged to share anything they recently read saw, observed, etc. about some current science event.

falls church, va | Years Taught: 1981 - present

Linda’s philosophy of teaching is that she teaches students much more than music; students are learning about themselves.  They are gaining expertise in responsibility, perseverance, independence and teamwork, problem solving, leadership and cooperation…..all areas that will help them negotiate successfully through the rest of their lives. She likes to describe what she does as teaching social studies, art, science, drama, geography, language arts and math through music.  Linda believes teaching music involves all aspects of the school and classroom.
